Leather industry in Kanpur-Unnao will continue during Kumbha with the condition of not dumping the dirt in the Ganges
Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court has given interim permission to run leather factories in Kanpur and Unnaq conditional during Kumbh
Lucknow, JNN Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court has given interim permission to run the leather factories in Kanpur and Unnao with this condition during the Aquarius, that these factories will not waste any kind of wastewater in the Ganga. The government had ordered the closure of these factories for three months in the wake of the Kumbh's recovery in the Ganga river. The court said that its factories are allowed to do uninterrupted work, but they will not waste the dirty water of the factory directly or in any gutters in the Ganges, which open directly into the Ganges. The court, while deciding the case on January 4, ordered the state government to keep the whole thing in the matter.
Challenges to order closure of leather factories
The order passed by the bench of Justice Rituraj Awasthi and Justice Rajiv Singh hearing the petition of two different factories. Due to the winter holidays, the Chief Justice formed a special bench to hear the episode. On behalf of the petitioners, it was said that due to the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, the UP Pollution Control Board issued an order on November 26 to order closure of all leather factories of Kanpur and Unnao for three months.

Twenty thousand people unemployed.
The petitioners demanded the cancellation of the said order of the Board and said that due to the closure of the three months, about twenty thousand people will become unemployed. It was said that it was proposed on their behalf that during the three months, the waste water of their factories will not be dropped in the Ganges and will be temporarily dropped elsewhere but the proposal was not considered. It was also said that a lot of foreign currency is earned from the leather industry, which the government will have to bear the loss. It was also said that due to closure of factories, the contracts taken with foreign and indigenous companies will also not be completed which will cause them major harm. At the same time, the UP Pollution Control Board said that there is only one opinion of the government that during the Kumbh, the water of the Ganges remained clean and potable so that there is no harm to the lagoons.
